Street Rat announces debut album 'Nothing As It Seems' and shares new single 'YES'

Stepping the energy up for the third single 'YES', Street Rat's alt-rock and electronica influences are on full display here. Layering a heavy guitar riff, horns and atmospheric textures over a tight drum groove, 'YES' is one of those records that instantly jump out of the speakers. Street Rat's unique approach draws you in without letting you get too comfortable, be it the curious 11/8 time signature, which keeps a forward momentum to the track, or his use of effects to “create a space caught between bliss and anxiety”, he explains.

“The song is basically about affluence and is an observation of an imaginary man on his deathbed that has acquired extreme wealth at the expense of others. It's like the last moments of his life and he's fighting his anxieties about possibly paying for his sins."

The rising feeling in the last minute of the song really enhances that overall atmosphere, and makes you wonder - did that man find peace in his last moments? Whatever the answer is, it's clear that Street Rat's art comes from a place of expression, and his forthcoming self-produced debut album 'Nothing As It Seems' is a beautifully crafted, introspective journey through his life.
